UU Bats Silenced in Setback to FSU

Blue Knights fall 8-0 & 10-3 to Falcons

URBANA, Ohio -- After a three-game win streak, Urbana softball has now dropped three straight following Sunday's pair of losses to Fairmont State. The Blue Knights fell 8-0 and 10-3 to the surging Falcons at Blue Knight Field.

With the losses, UU fell to 6-28 overall and 4-14 in league play while first-place FSU improved to 15-15 and 11-5 in MEC games.

//  GAME 1 (UU 8, FSU 0)
A big day by FSU's Beth Cook (7 for 7, 8 RBI) proved to be too much for the Blue Knights.

In the first game, FSU jumped on the board early after a two out double by Cook in the first inning. In the bottom half, senior Riley Curtis got into scoring position but UU failed to capitalize.

The game remained 2-0 until the top of the fifth inning when Cook homered to left field with two outs. FSU hit another home run in the sixth, making it 8-0.

Of the eight FSU runs, six of them came with two outs.

Freshman starter Kayleigh Pate battled throughout the day in the circle, but UU just couldn't wake the bats up.

//  GAME 2 (FSU 10, UU 3)
FSU started the second game of the day right where they had left off with Cook putting them on the board in the top of the first.

UU threatened early, but a base-running miscue led to a double play that ended a rally. Defensively, senior third baseman Briana Bamber provided a highlight play to boost momentum for the Blue Knights, producing a nice diving play to end the second frame with FSU runners in scoring position.

Down by five runs in the bottom of the fourth, sophomore Mykee Holtz delivered a two-run single up the middle to finally get UU on the board.

In the top of the fifth inning, again with runners in scoring position, senior Riley Curtis made a sliding catch in left-center field to end another FSU rally.

UU didn't score again until the bottom of the seventh when Izzy Helm singled in Britney Bonno. Bonno led the way at the plate with two hits including a double.

FSU outhit UU 28-9 across the two games.
