Baseball Drops Pair of Wild Finishes to WLU

Blue Knights fell twice on Saturday, 13-11 & 10-9

URBANA, Ohio -- Urbana and West Liberty combined for 50 hits in Saturday's doubleheader at Blue Knight Field. However, the Blue Knights came up short in the pair of wild games by final scores of 13-11 and 10-9. The visiting Hilltoppers took all four from the Blue Knights in the series.

With the losses, UU dropped to 6-14 in league play and 6-28 overall on the season. WLU improved to 14-15 (12-8).

//  GAME 1 (WLU 13, UU 11)
UU raced out to a 10-0 lead after batting around in the first inning, highlighted by a Mickey Losey grand slam for his second home run in two days, but the visitors chipped away to overcome the early deficit.

The Hilltoppers eventually claimed the lead with their own grand slam to cap a five-run seventh.

Five Blue Knights registered multi-hit efforts, led by senior Connor Coy's 3-for-4 outing.

Losey (2 for 3, HR, 2B, 4 RBI), Austin Pratt (2 for 4, RBI), Cody Fullenkamp (2 for 4) and Tanner Davis (2 for 4, 2B, 2 RBI) helped the Blue Knights outhit the Hilltoppers, 14-12. Mickey Barea and Zeth Tanner also collected RBIs.

UU committed four errors for the fifth time this season, along with surrendering eight walks. Closer Robbie Guerrero III took the loss in relief.

WLU reliver Tyler Blomquist earned the win after taking over in the first inning. He was charged with two earned runs over 6.1 innings. First baseman Tyler Ramsay homered twice for the Hilltoppers, including the go-ahead grand slam in the seventh.

//  GAME 2 (WLU 10, UU 9)
UU overcame three deficits in the nightcap, but couldn't pull through a fourth time by leaving the game-winning runs on base.

Senior Mickey Barea capped a three-hit game with a single in his final at-bat, which led to a pair of runs to give UU a 9-8 lead heading to the seventh.

Unfortunately, the Hilltoppers pushed two more across in the final inning following a lead-off triple. Then, UU stranded two runners after a game-ending double play.

Junior Austin Pratt also notched a three-hit performance while Brad Burkholder posted two hits with a double. In addition, Zeth Tanner clubbed a solo home run to run his UU single-season record to nine bombs.

Reliever Brandon McRae was saddled with the loss, despite only allowing two hits in two innings of work. WLU's Luke Nees captured his second win while Vincent Haddox picked up the save.

UU steps out of conference Tuesday for a road contest at nearby Cedarville. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. ET at Yellow Jacket Field.
