No. 22 Bobcats Claw Past Blue Knights, 2-0

BUCKHANNON, W. Va. -- The Urbana women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 defeat to 22nd-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan Friday afternoon in the league opener for the Blue Knights.

UU dropped to 0-3-0 on the young season while WVWC improved to 3-0-1 overall (2-0-0 MEC).

After a scoreless first half, the Bobcats broke the stalemate with a goal in the 64th minute by Emily Knight.

UU keeper Katherine Beech posted nine saves between the pipes as the home team rattled off 24 shots and 11 on frame. The Blue Knights could only register three shots on goal during the contest with one each by Kobi Bryant, Alyssa Edwards and Alyssa Garberich.

The Bobcats sealed the game with another goal in the 90th minute by Mary Cooper.

Both teams were given five corner kicks and UU was whistled for nine fouls compared to WVWC's eight.

UU will have a day off before taking on Fairmont State Sunday afternoon. Kick off in Fairmont, West Virginia is set for 2 p.m. ET.
