Blue Knights Split Road Series at Wesleyan

BUCKHANNON, W. Va. - Senior Jackson Everman improved to 3-0 while leading Urbana University baseball to a 3-1 win in Sunday's doubleheader split at West Virginia Wesleyan. The host Bobcats held on for a 3-0 triumph in Game 2 at Hank Ellis Field.

Records Update
UU traded wins for the fifth time in six league doubleheader matchups, moving to 11-15 overall (5-7 MEC). WVWC improved to 9-16 overall (7-4 MEC).

Game 1 (UU 3, WVWC 1 - 7 inn.)
Everman tossed a third straight complete game with a season-high five strikeouts and season-low three hits allowed to carry UU to the opening win. The right-hander had a shutout intact until Wesleyan's Eric Forbrick struck a solo home run in the final inning.

The Blue Knights struck first with two runs in the fourth to go up 2-0. With two outs, Connor Coy drove a double to left field and two batters later Mickey Barea knocked Coy in with an RBI single to center field. Damario Brown then scored on a wild pitch for the second run.

Coy led off the sixth with another double and scored again on Zeth Tanner's sacrifice. The Blue Knights outhit the Bobcats 8-3, as Coy and Brown each had two hits. Brent West recorded his league-leading 13th double while Isac Franklin and Nick Gallagher also singled.

Wesleyan's starter Jake Bishop (1-5) was tagged with the loss despite only one earned run allowed. Wesleyan had two errors and Urbana had one miscue.

Game 2 (WVWC 3, UU 0 - 7 inn.)
The Blue Knights were limited to just three hits against Bobcats' starter Hunter Rotarius, who registered a shutout with three strikeouts and one walk.

Both teams combined for just eight hits, but it was Wesleyan that took advantage of its opportunities with two runs in the third and one in the fifth.

Gallagher doubled while Daniel Quiroz and Barea each had a base knock for the Knights.

Will Keller went two innings (2 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K) in the start for UU and was charged with the loss. Adam Ramirez threw two scoreless frames in relief as Dylan Sheffer and Robbie Guerrero III also made mound appearances.
