West's Triple Scores Go-Ahead Run in 12th Inning

Urbana outlasts Findlay 2-1 on the road Wednesday

FINDLAY, Ohio - Urbana University first baseman Brent West finished a home run shy of the cycle while leading the Blue Knights (9-13) past Findlay 2-1 in 12 innings Wednesday night at Fifth Third Field. West's RBI triple in the top of the 12th snapped a 1-1 tie and five Blue Knight hurlers combined to keep the Oilers (14-5) off the board.

West finished 3 for 6 on the day while Connor Coy continued his hot streak with three hits (tied career high) to lead UU at the plate. The Blue Knights outhit the Oilers 14-10 with 21 of the combined 24 hits marked as singles. Isac Franklin, Daniel Quiroz, and Mickey Barea remained steady performers in the lineup with two hits each.

Senior right fielder Nick Gallagher's single extended his reached base streak to 20 games and active hit streak to eight contests.

In his first career start, right-hander Steven Beall posted an excellent outing by tossing six shutout frames and allowing just five hits with three strikeouts and no walks. The junior had to overcome a bit of adversity with numerous defensive miscues by the Knights, but those didn't rattle Beall as he cruised through the longest outing of his career.

Bradley Burkholder got the scoring started on his only hit of the day, an RBI knock in the second to put UU ahead 1-0.

Then, Findlay's starter Alexander Theiss buckled down and pitched solid enough to last two outs into the eighth inning. Prior to that, the Oilers tied the game on a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh off of UU reliever Colt Woolever.

That was the only run of the game for the hosts as Adam Ramirez, Robbie Guerrero III, and Dylan Sheffer surrendered just three hits over the final five innings. Sheffer earned the win, his first of the year, after pitching the final two frames.
