Coy Homers Twice in Urbana's Win Over Charleston

Blue Knights fall 12-10 in opener, pick up 9-4 victory in Game 2

URBANA, Ohio - The Urbana University baseball team split Friday's home opener against Charleston at Blue Knight Field. UU fell 12-10 in the first game before bouncing back with a 9-4 victory in the nightcap.

Records Update
UU moved to 7-12 overall and 2-4 against Mountain East Conference teams while UC now stands at 13-7 overall (2-4 MEC).

Game 1
The two teams combined for 22 runs and 19 hits during the seven-inning contest. After trailing 4-0, UU evened the score with four runs in the bottom of the third. The Golden Eagles built an 11-5 lead after five innings, but the Blue Knights got back within a run by pushing five runs across in the sixth. However, that was as close as the Knights could get and UC tacked on an insurance run in the seventh.

Five different players recorded multi-hit efforts, including Isac Franklin (2-4, 3B, RBI), Daniel Quiroz (2-5, RBI), Damario Brown (2-3), Brent West (2-3, 2B, 2 RBI), and Bradley Burkholder (2-4, 2B). Junior right-hander Patrick Orr made his first start as a Blue Knight and pitched into the fourth inning in the loss. Dylan Sheffer threw the final three-and-two-thirds for UU.

Charleston starter Jonathan Carr improved to 3-1 on the year while the Golden Eagles were led by four players with three or more hits. Designated hitter Nick Wilson went 3 for 4 with four RBI, a double and home run.

Game 2
Again, UU and UC were tied at 4-4 midway through the game as senior right-hander Adam Guay gave UU a quality start on the mound, going six innings for his second win of the year.

The Blue Knights took the lead in the sixth on Connor Coy's lead-off homer, his second long ball of the contest, and then UU plated three runs in the seventh to extend its lead.

UU outhit UC 13-10, led by Coy (2-4, 2 HR, 4 RBI), Franklin (2-5, RBI), Brown (2-4), and Zeth Tanner (2-4, 2B). Will Keller (1.0 IP) and Robbie Guerrero III (2 IP) prevented a UC comeback by allowing just two hits over the final three frames.

Urbana returns to its home field tomorrow for a doubleheader against West Virginia State. Game 1 is slated to begin at 1 p.m. ET.
