Blue Knights Suffer 2-1 Overtime Defeat

URBANA, Ohio – The Urbana women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to visiting Charleston Wednesday afternoon at UU Stadium.

The Blue Knights fell to 2-10-3 overall (2-9-3 MEC) after playing their fourth overtime match in seven outings. UU has played six games that required extra time. The Golden Eagles improved to 5-6-4 (4-5-4 MEC) on the season.

Trailing 1-0 late in the game, UU freshman Mikayla Williams came off the bench and scored her first career goal to knot the score at 1-1 in the 83rd minute. Alyssa Edwards provided the assist on a cross from the left sideline.

Both teams played even in the first overtime period, but the visitors netted the game-winner four minutes into the second OT frame.

Charleston scored the first goal of the match in the 60th minute on a loose ball inside the box.

UU keeper Katherine Beech recorded 14 saves in goal, while the Blue Knights were outshot 16-6 in shots on frame.

Up next:
UU will host its home finale next Wednesday, Oct. 25 against West Liberty (4 PM).
