Brown's Six RBIs Help Clinch Series Win

Bridgeport, W. Va. - Urbana (17-23) split a pair of road games against Fairmont State at the Bridgeport Rec Complex, taking the first game 14-4 before falling in the second contest 16-1 on Sunday. The Blue Knights finished the weekend by taking three out of four from the Falcons and positioned themselves well for the stretch run.

With the weekend action wrapped up, UU currently sits fourth in the MEC North Division standings. The top four teams qualify for the league's postseason tournament. The Blue Knights are 11-13 against conference opponents, which is tied with West Liberty and UU holds the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Hilltoppers. Wheeling Jesuit is third at 12-12, and will come to Urbana next weekend for a crucial four-game series.

Game 1
Damario Brown led a balanced UU offensive attack, producing a career-high six runs while tying his career-best hit total on a 4-for-4 showing at the plate. Two of his hits went for extra-bases, including his second home run of the season. Brown's the first Blue Knight player to record six RBIs since the 2011 season.

UU jumped all over the Falcons with seven runs on eight hits over the first two innings. Brown put the Blue Knights ahead 2-0 with a single in his first at-bat, and was followed up by RBI singles from Brent West and DJ Collins to make it 4-0 after one.

In the second inning, Brown produced another RBI single and UU pushed two across on FSU miscues to grab a 7-0 lead. AJ Finlay made it 8-0 with a two-out RBI single in the third.

Jackson Everman, who picked up his third win, made his first start in three weeks on the mound after working back from injury. The junior right hander looked solid in relief last weekend, and built upon that with four solid frames on Sunday. Everman pitched into the fifth, surrendering just two hits, a walk, two hit-batters, and recorded three strikeouts.

Brown and West, two of Urbana's top hitters all season, continued to produce with a pair of RBI knocks in the fifth. Brown's double down the left field line made it 9-0 and the West brought Brown around to give UU the insurmountable 10-0 advantage.

The Falcons were able to push four across in the sixth, but Brown destroyed any hopes for the FSU comeback with a two-run blast to right in the seventh. Collins singled home the final run to seal the game.

The top four hitters in UU's lineup each finished with multi-hit efforts, including Brown, West (3-for-5), Tim Feasel (2-for-2), and Finlay (2-for-4). Feasel, a sophomore outfielder, has quietly worked his way into a lineup fixture by registering a .423 average and hitting safely in 16 of his 20 starts.

Collins, who extended his reached-base streak to an impressive 42 games, had three hits and Bradley Burkholder reached base four times with a pair of hits and two walks.

Brad Hall closed out the fifth inning on the hill and Steven Beall (2.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 1 K) tossed the final two innings for Urbana.

The Blue Knights outhit the Falcons 18-7, tying the second-highest hit total of the season for the Blue and Grey.

Game 2
The second contest was tied 1-1 after five innings and then the wheels fell off for Urbana. The Falcons erupted for eight runs in the sixth, two in the seventh, and five in the eighth.

Mickey Barea tied the game on an RBI walk with the bases loaded in the fourth, which proved to be the only UU run of the contest.

Finlay, West, Collins, Enmanuel Lopez, and Connor Coy each collected a base hit, as the Blue Knights were outslugged 18-5.

Starter Mitchell Lawson was hung with the loss after five innings of work in which he allowed six earned runs.

Up Next
Urbana will host its final non-conference game Wednesday afternoon against Cedarville. The Blue Knights defeated the Yellow Jackets 4-2 back on April 13 in Cedarville. First pitch at UU Baseball Field is slated for 4 p.m. ET.
