Larry Cox

Larry Cox assumed the role of Director of Athletics at Urbana University on January 19, 2015.
 
Cox shares a wealth of knowledge and experience at the intercollegiate level as an administrator and coach having served as the Athletic Director at Brescia University (KY), Assistant Athletic Director at Mount St. Joseph University (OH), and NCAA Compliance Officer and Event Manager at Thomas Moore College (KY).  He has a successful track record of leadership in many areas including student-athlete recruiting, facilities upgrades, community relations and improving academic performance.
 
Cox coached the men's basketball team at the College of Mount St. Joseph for 13 seasons from 1998-2011. He started the program in 1998 and his team finished with a winning record in its inaugural season.  Cox was also the Assistant Athletics Director for seven years.  During that time he was the direct supervisor of Football, Men's and Women's Golf, Men's and Women's Tennis, and the Cheer/Dance teams.  He coordinated transportation, helped with marketing campaigns, and event management for all 24 sports.  In his time at MSJ, Cox was part of a transformation in the Athletics Department from 14 teams for 24. 
 
Coach Cox's first head coaching position came in the 1990 season at Thomas Moore College as he inherited a program that had not had a winning season in a decade and during his coaching tenure he turned the program around - finishing with four straight winning seasons. He was named AMC Coach of the Year in both the 1994-95 and 1995-96 seasons, while also leading his school to the AMC regular season and tournament championships.  In addition to his basketball and administrative duties, he also spent five seasons as the assistant baseball coach.
 
2285Prior to his tenure at Thomas Moore, Cox was the associate head basketball coach from 1983-1989 at St. Joseph's College (IN), an NCAA Division II program.  In addition to his coaching duties in basketball he also had, at various times, responsibilities as assistant baseball coach, assistant women’s tennis coach, head men’s track coach and Facility Manager for the on-campus recreation center.
 
Cox also spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at NCAA Division I Bowling Green State University (OH) in 1981-82 and 1982-83. During the first season the Falcons were conference runners-up and in the second season they won the Mid-American Conference outright finishing with a 21-9 record. For two seasons, from 1979-1981, he was an assistant at Hanover College (Indiana), where the school averaged 24 wins a season, won two Hoosier-Buckeye Conference Championships and advanced to the Elite Eight in the NAIA National Tournament.
 
Cox holds a Bachelor of Arts in History degree from Hanover College (IN) and a Master of Arts in History degree and a Master of Education in Physical Education with a specialization in athletic administration degree from Bowling Green State University (OH). He has taught classes at Bowling Green State University, St. Joseph's College, and Mount St Joseph University.  During his tenure as a head coach, every player who completed their four years of eligibility earned their degree.
 
Cox and his wife, Beth, currently reside in West Chester, Ohio and have triplet sons, Luke, Jake and Ryan Cox.
